About GSG

History and Mission

Founded in 1991, the Graduate Student Association is the governing body of and for graduate students at Colorado School of Mines.  In 2013, the GSA re-branded themselves at the Graduate Student Government (GSG). The GSG addresses issues of concern to graduate students at Mines, and organizes various research, academic and social functions. All registered graduate students are automatically members of the GSG and are welcome to attend meetings and events. The GSG Council is comprised of representatives from each degree-granting department or division, and it meets monthly to guide GSG policies and activities. If you are interested in learning more about the GSG, please contact one of the GSG Council members or stop by our next meeting!

The GSG is pleased to introduce the:

Colorado School of Mines Graduate Student Statement of Values and ExpectationsPDF versionText only version.

This document was forged with input from graduate students, administrators, and faculty. Though the document is non-binding, we strongly encourage all graduate students to familiarize themselves with this document. The guidelines herein are intended to provide a behavioral framework, to empower graduate students to assess the integrity of the student-advisor relationship. When obstacles do emerge, there are multiple appropriate venues to seek advice and assistance, including GSG Department Representatives, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Office of Human Resources.

Graduate Student Government Strategic PlanPDF versionText only version

In the 2012-2013 academic year, GSG established a Five-Year Strategic Plan based on the current condition of the graduate student population. With the ever changing campus community and student population, this document provides the basis for and purpose of graduate government endeavors. The Plan centers around three key elements that graduate students value: Research & Academics, Community, and Sustainability. Throughout the Plan, the history, structure, and goals reinforce the mission of Graduate Student Government.

Mission Statement: The Graduate Student Government will ensure graduate students and their interests are fully represented across the Colorado School of Mines community; the organization will deliver an infrastructure that supports graduate student achievement – academically, socially, and personally.
